Myobrace for Kids in Helotes, TX

Myobrace is an early-intervention orthodontic system that trains the muscles of the mouth and face to guide healthy jaw and tooth alignment in growing children. Our Helotes, TX pediatric dentist often pairs Myobrace with airway screening, since both address jaw development — see our Pediatric Airway Dentistry page for the full picture, serving families across San Antonio, Boerne, and Leon Valley.

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

Is this your child?

Crooked teeth are usually a symptom rather than the problem itself. Habits such as breathing through the mouth, resting the tongue in the wrong place, or swallowing incorrectly shape how a child’s jaw grows. Myobrace works on those habits — so if two or more of these sound familiar, it is worth a look.
✓
Their lips are apart at rest
A mouth that sits open during the day, watching TV or concentrating, points to habitual mouth breathing.
✓
They breathe through their mouth
Especially while asleep. Nasal breathing is what supports healthy jaw and facial development.
✓
Adult teeth are coming in crowded
Teeth arriving crooked or overlapping often means there simply is not enough room in the jaw.
✓
Thumb sucking or a dummy habit
Sustained pressure on a growing jaw gradually changes the shape of the bite.
✓
Their tongue pushes against their teeth
You might notice it when they swallow, or hear it as a slight lisp when they talk.
✓
Snoring or restless sleep
Noisy, broken sleep in a child frequently travels alongside the same airway and habit issues.

The difference

Two paths for a growing smile

Both roads can end with straight teeth. They differ in when the work happens, how much of it there is, and whether the underlying habit ever gets addressed.
If the habits carry on
Straightening things later
×
Teeth are moved once the jaw has finished growing
×
Fixed brackets and wires, cleaned around every day
×
The mouth breathing or tongue habit is left untouched
×
A higher chance of teeth drifting back afterwards
If we correct the habits now
Guiding growth while it happens
✓
Works alongside your child’s natural jaw growth
✓
Removable, with nothing fixed to the teeth
✓
Retrains nasal breathing, tongue position and swallowing
✓
Can reduce, and sometimes avoid, the need for braces later
To be straight with you: Myobrace asks more of your child day to day than braces do,
because they have to remember to wear it. In exchange, it treats the cause rather than
the result. We will tell you honestly whether your child is a good candidate.
How jaw development shapes a child’s airway — and what changes when
the root cause is addressed rather than the symptoms.
The commitment, in plain terms

What a day with Myobrace looks
like

This is the whole routine. It is small, but it has to be consistent — that is the honest
trade for treating the habit itself.
🕐
1–2 hours
During the day
Worn while reading, doing homework or watching television. Nobody at school needs to see it.
🌙
All night
While sleeping
The appliance encourages the lips to stay together and the tongue to rest in the right place.
⚡
A few minutes
Daily activities
Short breathing and tongue exercises that build the muscle memory behind the change.
Myobrace is worn for about an hour during the day and overnight while sleeping — no brackets, and it
comes out for meals, school and sport.

The benefits of Myobrace for kids

Myobrace works on the habits behind crooked teeth, so the gains reach further
than alignment alone.
Improves facial development
Myobrace for Kids does not just focus on straightening teeth. It also promotes proper jaw development, which can improve your child’s facial symmetry and overall appearance. By encouraging proper tongue positioning and nasal breathing, Myobrace can help ensure your child’s face develops correctly, preventing issues like a recessed jaw or misaligned bite.
Prevents future dental problems
Myobrace for Kids addresses the root causes of dental issues, such as poor oral habits, which can prevent future dental problems. By training your child to breathe through their nose, swallow correctly, and keep their lips together, Myobrace can help prevent issues like gum disease, tooth decay, and other oral health problems down the line.
Comfort and convenience
Unlike traditional braces, Myobrace appliances are removable and need to be worn only 1–2 hours a day and overnight while sleeping. This makes them a more comfortable and convenient option for children, who can remove them to eat, brush their teeth, or play sports.
What to expect

How Myobrace treatment
unfolds

Four unhurried stages. Nothing is glued to your child’s teeth, and nothing about
the first visit will frighten them
1
Visit one · about 45 minutes
We watch how they breathe
We look at lip and tongue position, how your child swallows, and how the jaw is developing. You tell us about sleep, thumb habits and speech. Your child is not treated at this stage.
2
Within two weeks
A plan, in plain language
We explain what we found, which habits are driving it, and what treatment would involve — with honest costs and timescales. If Myobrace is not the right fit, we will say so.
3
The main stretch
Habit correction begins
Your child starts wearing the appliance daily and overnight, alongside the short activities. Early on this is mostly about building the routine rather than moving teeth.
4
Ongoing, at your pace
Growth in the right direction
Regular short check-ins let us track jaw development and step up through the appliance series as your child grows and their adult teeth arrive.
The best window is now
You do not have to wait for all the adult teeth
Families are often told to come back in a few years and think about braces then. But the habits shaping your child’s jaw are active right now, while they are still growing — and that growth is exactly what makes early treatment possible.

Questions before you book

What age should we start?

Myobrace is generally aimed at children between about three and fifteen, and starting earlier gives us more natural growth to work with. Come in and we will tell you whether now is the right moment for your child.

Will my child still need braces afterwards?

Sometimes, though often less work is needed. The goal is to correct the habit causing the crowding, which can reduce or occasionally remove the need for braces — but we will not promise you an outcome before we have looked.

Does my child wear it at school?

No. The daytime hour or two happens at home, and the rest is overnight.

Is it painful?

No. It is soft and removable. Some children notice it for the first few nights, then stop thinking about it.

What if my child forgets to wear it?

This is the honest challenge with Myobrace, and it is usually solvable. We build the routine with you, troubleshoot what is getting in the way, and involve your child in the decision so it feels like theirs.

Will insurance help?

Coverage differs considerably between plans. Our team will check your benefits before treatment begins and put the costs in writing.

Show your teeth some love.
